October 2004. The beetle was collected from bromeliads imported from Mexico. The specimen is 7mm in length. The tarsal formula appears to be 4-4-4 with 1 to 3 lobed and setose and the 3rd distinctly bilobed (like chrysomelids). The consensus was that it is a hispine chrysomelid. Brontispa longissima and Promecotheca papuana of this group are serious Cocoa and Coconut. There is the possibility that it is a species of Brontispa (Chrysomelidae: Hispinae).
