Crops Plantation crops BananaGiant African snail; a pest of banana?

Giant African snail, banana

April 2007. A question from Australia about giant African snail, Achatina folica, on banana; does it:

??? ever lay its eggs in banana bunches?
??? feed on green banana fruit?
??? feed on green banana leaves?

As with a similar question – is giant African a pest of taro – replies were mixed. In Palau, the answer was no to all three questions; in India, the snails feeds on banana leaves; in St Lucia, the snail had been seen on banana plants, and their fruit, but never seen laying eggs in banana bunches, feeding on green banana fruit or leaves. This seemed to be the consensus that the snails may occasionally feed on leaves, but fruit is not damaged.
