Weevil in Paraserianthes falcataria

April 2008. A request for the identification of a weevil (left) in Paraserianthes falcataria (previously in the Albizia family), and also the identification of a borer in teak (right).

A member wrote (to the Editor only): The weevil is a species of Tanymecini (in the subfamily Entiminae), probably the genus Hypomeces. These weevils are polyphagous foliage feeders, definitely not wood borers, and their larvae live in the soil feeding on roots (as nearly all entimines do).
