Bean (cotton) lace bug Corythucha cossypii, Samoa

October 2015. A request for assistance in identifying a lace bug on eggplant and bean in Samoa. Is it the bean (cotton) lace bug Corythucha cossypii? The first guess was that it was Gargaphia solani, but then Forest and Kim Starr’s photo of Corythucha cossypii was seen and a paper “First Records of Corythucha gossypii (Hemiptera: Tingidae) in Hawaii, including Notes on Host Plants.”

A member wrote it’s likely that it is Corythucha gossypii on both hosts. The species is very common in American Samoa – on beans, eggplants, laupele (bele), hibiscus, breadfruit and many other hosts.
