 Teleostylinus sp. Minimize

September 2006. A fly was seen on tomatoes in Niue and there was concern that it was a pest. It was diagnosed as the "push-me, pull-you fly" Teleostylinus sp., (possibily the banana-stalk fly, Teleostylinus lineolatus (Diptera: Neriidae). It is normally only a pest of damaged fruit. Of more concern are genuine fruit flies that are about the same size (like a large house fly) that attack healthy fruit.
