Termites, Metarhizium

September 2005. Vanuatu Quarantine and Inspection Service asked about the control of termites in a jetty where pesticides could not be used.

Members suggested that Metarhizium should be tried, and that contact should be made with CABI (as well as AQIS, Australia) about suitable approaches. However, authorities should be aware that import and release of any biocontrol/beneficial organism should conform with the international standard ISPM 3: https://www.ippc.int/servlet/BinaryDownloaderServlet/76047_ICPM_7_report_ISPM_0.pdf?filename=1118408473107_ISPM3_2005.pdf&refID=76047 www.ippc.int/servlet/BinaryDownloaderServlet/76047_ICPM_7_report_ISPM_0.pdf

Later, a member from Barbados asked about organic products against subterraneum termites for use by a vegetable producer. Again, the mycopesticide, Metarhizium anisoplia, was suggested.
