Termite and crazy ant control, Samoa

April 2016. A member wrote about an infestation of termites and ants. The infested area is coastal. An old open wooden house is heavily infested by termites and there is a high population of crazy ants nearby on the rocks in a reclaimed area; these are now moving into the houses and causing a nuisance. The problems stopped for sometimes (2-3 months) after spraying with ICON. Are there any other options?

Two options were suggested:
(i) For the crazy ant, maintain a high standard of hygiene around the home. Remove food sources, scuh as kitchen wastes, fish scales, bones and sources of sugar.
(ii) Fipronil baits.
(iii) Spinosad (1ml/litre); 3 days later spray again.

Biological control is being investigated and a Cordyceps fungus has made the BBC wildlife with David Attenborough. There is a Youtube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuKjBIBBAL8).
