Passiflora manicata

September 2006. A landowner in Haiku, Maui (Hawaii) would like to know the identity of the vine illustrated. His neighbour planted it, and now it is crawling over his land and spreading into a nearby gulch. It has been tentatively identified as Passiflora vitifolia (vine-leaved passion vine.

It was thought to be P. manicata, which is reportedly naturalized in Hawaii (but at high elevations on Kauai). It is similar to P. coccinea, which, however, has unlobed leaves.
