Scarab attack, rice, nothern Cambodia

August 2016. A member wrote that there has been an infestation of scarabaeid larvae in rice fallows in northern Cambodia. They are creating considerable concern in the pre-early planting season because their density is uniformly high across hundreds of hectares. High means up to 200/m2. Short-term management is clearly straight forward with conventional pesticides but we need move onto non-pesticidal approaches as soon as possible. Does any one have information or even ideas about the species, its life cycle, alternative hosts, etc.
