Potato tuber moth, Phthorimea tuberculella, ware potatoes, St Helena

October 2013. Can anyone provide a suitable product to knock-down populations of the potato moth on ware potatoes in storage.

It was suggested that contact be made with CIP, the International Potato Center, Lima, Peru. Potato tuber moth is featured on their website. See http://cipotato.org/potato/pests-and-disease

and
http://www.cipotato.org/research/crop-management-production-systems/global-control-principles-and-strategies-for-potato-and-sweetpotato-pests-and-diseasesfor contacts.

It was also reported that CIP has come up with a product (a pheromone mixed with an insecticide) which is applied as spots in the field and/or in stores. It attracts the male moths and kills them. That way you do not have to rely on insecticidal cover sprays. You can contact Jurgen who is the right person and ask him if he can help you get the product. We tested it here in Bhutan and it was quite effective. [email protected]

Pyrethoid products were also suggested.
