Distribution

South and Southeast Asia, Oceania. Recorded from Cook Islands, Fiji (Rotuma island), Niue, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tonga, and Vanuatu.

Symptoms & Life Cycle

Leaf spots absent; dingy dark-brown to blackish sooty mould growth on lower surface of leaf (Photo 1). The spores are spread in the wind.

Impact

A minor disease of little economic impact on breadfruit.

Detection & inspection

Look for the sooty mould growth on the underside of the leaves.

Management

There is no treatment suggested for this disease as it is of little or no economic importance.
