Tenebrionid, Tanna, Vanuatu

July 2017. A person wrote about a visit by yacht to the island of Tanna, Vanuatu. He said “a beetle species would cover my sailboat at dusk, which was anchored at Port Resolution. They were drawn by the anchor light. We’re still finding them 2 weeks later as they come out at night from their hiding places on deck. They are black and don’t fly once they arrive on deck, and are slow moving, seem to have difficulty with steep inclines, float, are not bothered by walking on ropes, which are underwater, but don’t bite or sting. Are they Tenebrionidae, darkling beetles?”

The image was not good enough for an identification. All that could be said was to confirm that it was a tenebrioid.
