Tetrastichinae wasps, Casuarina

January 2009. A miniature wasp was found attacking the terminal shoots of Casuarina equisetifolia branchlets on Guam. Images at http://blog.guaminsects.net/?p=331.

A member responded saying that the wasps appear to be Eulophidae, in the subfamily Tetrastichinae.

In recent years, there have been several eulophid species that have gone invasive as gall formers, most notably, the Erythrina Gall Wasp (Quadrastichus erythrinae) on coral trees, and two species which form galls on Eucalyptus, Leptocybe invasa and Ophelimus maskelli. It is interesting because most eulophids are parasitoids.

Specimens were sent for criticl identification.
