Dryophthoroides sp., weevil, China (interception)

December 2011. A quarantine officer from Hainan Islands, The People’s Republic of China said that for several years weevils have been intercepted in coconut fruit from Indonesia. It was thought to be Dryophthorussp. The species was required.

In response, a member said that it was certainly Strombocerinae in the sense of Zimmerman (weevils of Australia vol. 3) and seems to fit Dryophthoroides, which has Chinese species. The members of this genus and subfamily appear to be of no serious quarantine risk as they live in dead wood.
