Psilogramma menephron, privet hawk moth

March 2008. The larva was found on citrus trees in Canberra, Australia, and thought to be Papilio sp. maybe P aegeus. They are commonly found this time of year. It is 7 cm long adn 1 cm wide.

It was identified as Psilogramma menephron (family Sphingidae), known as the “privet hawk moth” although it has a number of other hosts. See: linus.socs.uts.edu.au/~don/larvae/sphi/menephr.html
