July 2017. A weed was sent for identification from the Philippines. It was of interest as it may be the host of an important bacterial disease.
A member wrote that it was likely to be either Acalypha indicaor Acalypha lanceolata. These species are quite similar. Both species have been recorded in the Philippines. Formal verification should be obtained by submitting a specimen to one of the registered herbaria in the Philippines (see listing at: Index Herbariorum Philippines).
It was not likely to be Laportea interrupta (Urticaceae), also suggested.
