Dragon fruit, spots, Greece

November 2013. Spots on Dragon fruits stems in Greece. There are 50 trees of 18 varieties and since September when the morning mists arrived, rust coloured spots have appeared on the young green stems. Later, they appeared on the older stems too.

First, the infected stems were removed, and even a whole plant, then later fungicide was used, copper and then Thiophanate Methyl. However, the fungicides did not stop the spread of the spots. Captan has also been used for fear that if used too often the fungus causing the spots would develop resistance to TM. Suggestions concerning the problem and treatment were requested.

Members suggested that the first thing to do was to get a diagnosis of the problem. Certainly, this should be done before the plants are sprayed with fungicides.
