July 2003. Papua New Guinea asked for literature on the taxonomy of either Idiopsis spp. or Idiopsodes spp. (Curculionidae). It seems that most Idiopsis spp. have been transferred to Idiopsodes.
Idiopsis Faust, 1897 is a junior homonym and is replaced by Idiopsodes Thompson, 1977. Zimmerman is properly moving all the remaining described species (other than griseus, the type species, excellens, which was moved to Albertisius and Heller’s species from Bali, which remain incertae sedis, to Idiopsodes in Australian weevils IV, which is nearing completion. The proper distinction between Idiopsodes and Oribius is in need of verification, though. |
