Wax scale, Vitex parviflora, Guam

April 2013. A small wax scale attacking Vitex parviflora which was thought to be Ceroplastes ceriferusor C. pseudoceriferus. Vitex is regarded as an invasive species on Guam. The host range of the species was of interest. Although no capability of making slides; however, there are CO1 sequences available for the two suspect species, and others in the genus, and a colleague at the University of Guam has the equipment and skills for CO1 barcoding.

More information on the scale is here:

The species that have been recorded on Vitex are C. longicauda and C. sinensis.

The largest specimens in the picture have the characteristic top wax bent over into a hook.
